#78 gmc caballero manual
Like somebody else said, the manual gearboxes in these cars were by Saginaw. I also have a Gmc Caballero with a factory 4 spd that i picked up for parts. GMC has also expanded to allow for hybrid drive systems in an effort to keep up with growing consumer. GMC is the brand name for trucks (see the GMC Sierra 1500 model history), vans and SUVs sold by General Motors. Z-16 option car(SS) 305 4 spd M-20 Muncie, full gauges with tach, heavy duty sway-bars, originally 273 posi but i changed to a 348 ratio(much better with the M-20 tall 1st),(also changed motor to a '69 350 with factory 11-1 forged pistons, ported & polished 194 semi-open chamber heads, Victor Jr, solid lifters, etc.) tilt, manual windows, ps, pb, pulse wipers, 3 tone paint, facMCry tonneau cover, no console with 60/40 split bench seat, no header panel emblem, elcamino ss dash emblem, am/fm cassette, lower front spoiler. GMC Prices & Values: GM purchased a truck company creating General Motors Truck Co., which became GMC Truck. Sorry for the long story.hope I didn't put you to sleep :). After I sold the ElCamino, I was able to get a hold of a Nova parts catalog, which had pictures of a complete 4 speed conversion for 75-79 Novas.and wouldn't you know it.these parts looked exactly like the parts I had in the Caballero. And the Z-bar, and pivot ball (mounted to the frame), as well as the linkages that I had, fit TOO perfectly. The last Nova's (75-79) were very similar as far as sub-frames and suspension. And since no one was manufacturing these kind of parts for this type of car.at the time.I'm thinking maybe, just MAYBE, the 4 speed parts from a late-70's Nova is what I was looking at. Did you find one, or do you plan on making one? When I took the 4 speed parts out of the Caballero, they didn't look like home-made parts. I had an 84 Caballero that was converted to 4 speed.took the "standard" parts out of there and put it in my 78 ElCamino. Saw an original 78 Elcamino 4-speed, and a couple of original 78 Malibu 4-speeds.
